Kopitar, Zatkoff “day-to-day” via DS; Campbell to be recalled

Good afternoon from Southern California, Insiders. A quick update (not a Quick update): The Kings practiced in Winnipeg earlier today, and though the team is in a three-games-in-three-and-a-half-days stretch of the season, a good portion of players made it onto the ice at the MTS Centre. Based on correspondence with the team, only a small group of players did not participate in the practice in advance of tomorrow’s game, which begins at 1:00 p.m. local time and 11:00 a.m. PT. The two goalies were Peter Budaj and Bill Ranford, who has served as an emergency stand-in during similar situations in the past.

Both Anze Kopitar, who did not return to Friday’s game following a third period bump along the boards involving Ottawa’s Marc Methot, and Jeff Zatkoff, who did not participate in the third period, were deemed “day-to-day” by Darryl Sutter. With Zatkoff immediately unavailable, Los Angeles will recall Jack Campbell from AHL-Ontario, where he is 2-1-0 with a 3.32 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage through 181 minutes of action. That press release is expected to come later today.

On Zatkoff, the initial sense I have after speaking with several people connected to the team is that the injury is not particularly serious (see: Sutter’s “day-to-day” assessment). That’s not to say it’s any more or less serious than Kopitar’s issue; I’m not with the team currently and don’t have any firm sense of what Anze’s dealing with anything beyond today’s day-to-day designation.

That’s it for now; Lisa Dillman of the LA Times was on scene this morning and should provide additional details beyond those shared here. Enjoy your Saturday, Insiders.
