October 18 morning skate quotes: Darryl Sutter

On what Tom Gilbert can bring to the lineup:
We’ll see. Keep those veteran defensemen playing, and obviously a different type of player than Greener, but we’ll see. As I said, we signed him for the depth part of it and the right side part of it, and hopefully he can contribute.

On whether he’s “excited” to have Tanner Pearson back in the lineup:
Yeah, it’s good to have him. Good young legs. It’s a position that we’ve had some trouble with through training camp.

On what he liked about the McNabb-Doughty partnership, and what could be improved:
Play with Drew – I like that. [Reporter: In terms of Brayden’s game, what was it that you liked from last year, and what can he continue to work on playing alongside Drew?] I think what he’d continue to work on is playing against top players.

On Pearson’s versatility:
Yeah, he plays a lot of situations. He’s a good player. He can check and he can kill penalties. He can play on the power play, he can play against top guys. He’s a good competitor, it’s just getting a little more experience. He’s a 15-goal scorer last year that we hope can get to another level there.

On Bruce Boudreau’s system, and how preparing for Minnesota is different than Anaheim:
Well, the Minnesota team’s not different. Most of the team is the very same. It’s not like they change how they play. They play pretty much the same because they’re a veteran team that if you look at it, everybody on both teams has played anywhere from one to 39 times against each other. Both teams have been very successful and their records are pretty much even against each other. It’s two good hockey clubs.
