Coyotes 2, Kings 1
Third Period, 8:35 remaining
20:00: Clague not on the bench or the ice to begin the third period.
18:22: Penalties. Reddekopp for hooking, Bunting for roughing.
17:07: Cernak’s hammer denied by Hill’s kick save.
16:30: Heavy Kings pressure.
15:45: Big Imoo save on Pederson, who slipped free and received a puck in front of the net.
14:10: Barre-Boulet strips a puck loose, dangles, connects on the underside of the crossbar with a backhand. No dice.
11:55: PENALTY ARI. Bushnell for high-sticking.
8:35: Packing up. Live blog over. Heading downstairs. Let’s talk soon, Insiders.
20:00: Ready to go (remember hearing this at Kings games?). Imoo in for Willms.
19:38: Mups lit for the second straight day.
19:19: Penalties, LAK/ARI. Bunting and Lowry. They jaw on the way back to the bench. They’re still jawing. Two each for roughing. It’s so quiet in here that you could hear their jawing when the arena PA announced their penalties.
16:19: Gutierrez protects the puck well while leveraging a defender and moving to the tops of the circles. Hill denies his wrister. Nice play by the Lethbridge Hurricane vying for an ELC.
14:52: PENALTY LAK. Wagner whistled for hooking. Bunting might’ve got a bit wide-eyed when he whiffed on an opportunity to bury a loose puck in the high slot. Jawing continues between Bunting, Kings.
13:10: POWER PLAY GOAL ARI. 1-1. Bunting buries a shot from close range after a Capobianco feed from behind the net.
12:08: Nice play by Schmalz on the backcheck to disrupt a slow-developing Arizona two-on-one.
9:20: Nice play by Bunting to cut off an angle and deny Shore’s net-front drive. Negated a developing high-grade, in-tight chance. Bunting very visible this period for Arizona.
7:40: PENALTY LAK. Lintuniemi for cross-checking. As the penalty was taken, Imoo made a big stop on Kohn from close range.
7:16: POWER PLAY GOAL ARI. 1-2. Garland shoots from the high slot, Imoo gets a piece, but it bounces past the goal line and into the net.
6:07: Barre-Boulet takes advantage of an Arizona turnover deep in Coyotes territory and waits an extra beat before feeding Amadio, whose shot was stopped by Hill.
5:04: Lowry drives the net, but has his stuff chance rebuffed by Hill. A mild scrum ensues. Surprised there are penalties, but Lowry and Smereck are whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct.
1:00: Uh-oh: Kale Clague gets tangled up a bit behind the puck, falls, needs help from teammates getting towards the bench. Assisted down the tunnel. Appeared to be lower-body. Didn’t look good.— Jon Rosen (@lakingsinsider) September 21, 2016
0:00: End second period.
20:00: Ready to start.
13:30: Quick three-on-twos in both directions. Neither was particularly threatening, though the Coyotes were able to get a hard, low shot off. Left pad save, Willms.
12:50: Nice Sharipzyanov block on a high-grade chance from the slot.
12:10: Good pressure by the Lowry-Amadio-Barre-Boulet line. Best opportunity was from Lowry’s redirection of Amadio’s centering feed. Just trickled wide.
11:23: PENALTY ARI. Felixson for interference. Schmalz continues to do some smart things with the pucks. Chips it into the Arizona zone, moves his feet along the boards, is held up, draws an interference call.
9:48: Sharipzyanov getting pucks through in the offensive zone; finished with two shots on the power play. Have been impressed by his play through rookie camp and the first three and a half periods of this series.
7:51: Nice puck movement in the offensive zone by Gutierrez, Shore, Luff, Clague, Sharipzianov. Good rhythm established.
4:55: Schmalz with a couple of nice hits in one shift. Has played a smart game in all zones.
4:00: GOAL LAK. 1-0. (Time may be off.) Quentin Shore drives down the right wing on the rush, beats Hill with a crisp, short-side wrister. Gutierrez assists. Believe that’s Gutierrez’s second or third assist; no box score is available.
3:15: High grade rush chance for LAK. Three-on-two dropped to Barre-Boulet, who pulls the trigger. Save Hill, no rebound.
2:02: PENALTY ARI. Chychrun for hooking. Good LAK pressure on the delayed call; B-chance by Shore was gloved by Hill.
0:10: Lowry’s redirection travels just wide of the net. Followed by a heavy Sharipzyanov shot that missed wide.
0:00: End first period.
Joel Lowry will wear the C tonight. … Paul LaDue will miss the second straight game with a groin injury that is considered to be minor. “Could’ve played both games,” I’ve been told by a hockey operations source. … Brody Willms, who was excellent in his 20 minutes of play last night, will start in net.
