Notes/video

–The Rampage opened the scoring just under two minutes in as all the Reign’s players got caught above the circles on a Sam Henley deflection. Video courtesy of Sheng Peng:

–Brett Sutter earned a fighting major, an instigator penalty and a 10-minute instigator misconduct when he came to the defense of Adrian Kempe, who was leveled by Mat Clark at 7:50 into the first period.

–San Antonio’s second goal resulted in a sleepy Reign defense allowing Borna Rendulic to get behind them.

–The Reign couldn’t convert on a 5-on-3 in the second period, but Justin Auger cashed in 5-on-4, battling in front to get positioning, eventually getting two whacks on a rebound of a Kris Newbury point shot for his 14th goal of the season:

–Sutter grabs a blocked Jonny Brodzinski shot and goes upstairs on Roman Will to make it 2-2 late in the second period:

–The Reign scored three third period goals in a 3:06 span, starting with Brodzinski’s power play marker:

–That was followed by Sutter’s second of the game and then a blast by Sean Backman:

–Sutter had his first goals on home ice and his first multi-goal game with the Reign.

–Defenseman and team captain Vincent LoVerde missed his first game of the season due a neck/throat injury suffered Wednesday against San Jose. Nic Dowd, Auger and Backman are now the only players to play in all 56 games.

–Brodzinski recorded his third multi-point game of the season and second three-point game.

–The Reign improved to 6-9-3-0 when trailing after the first period.
