On Milan Lucic:
He’s off to a good start. [Reporter: How do you seen him making that adjustment on and off the ice to a new style of play, new coaching, new everything?] I think the biggest adjustment would be just changing conference. I think any player that’s played in one conference his whole career would say that. [Reporter: Do you see that confidence in him now that maybe you saw when he was playing in Boston?] I’ve seen it since he came here, yeah. Never a confidence issue with him, that’s for sure.
On whether Saturday’s game was the best play by wings alongside Anze Kopitar:
Tanner’s been pretty solid wherever we’ve put him. I think you’ve got to define that a little bit more. I think it was obviously Gaborik’s best game. Good enough to be with Kopitar. [Reporter: Is that kind of the ideal way that you want to see Tanner Pearson operate, creating havoc on the forecheck?] That’s his game, yeah.
On the chemistry on Jeff Carter’s line:
Well, they’ve been our most productive as individuals and as a line by a longshot. [Reporter: But do you still see more that as they get used to playing together more?] Hopefully they have a good game tonight. [Reporter: That’s as far as you look?] Yeah. We’re just trying to win a game, so I’m not really any more than that. I mean, it’s an old story about your best players, to win in this league, have to be your best players every night, so when you do that, you give yourself a chance to win. I don’t know where that all got started, it’s only about ‘this line,’ or ‘these guys have to play together,’ that hasn’t worked since the 70’s or 80’s, or 60’s. They used to play three lines and four defensemen, and now guys are fortunate there’s four lines and six defensemen.
On whether it takes young players a long time to find their game after an injury:
Yeah, [Pearson] missed most of the year last year. When he got hurt he was having a hard time, so it was really his first season – he had a good playoffs for us the Stanley Cup year. In fact, when we won it, we were playing Tanner with Mike and Jeff the last Cup, and then he came in. Obviously he had a good start, and then he struggled before he got hurt and never got back. He’s probably, hopefully back on his game. He’s probably close to being back on his game. I think he’s feeling good about where he’s at.
