October 7 morning skate notes

Good morning, Insiders. The lines and pairings shown at today’s morning skate:

Lucic-Kopitar-Gaborik
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Brown-Shore-Lewis
Clifford-Andreoff-Nolan

Muzzin-Doughty
Schultz-Ehrhoff
McNabb-Martinez
Forbort-Greene

Notes:

-Jordan Weal didn’t take part in line rushes, but Derek Forbort and Matt Greene did. Because Forbort and Weal remained on for some extra work, and Greene is still likely to need a few extra days to recover from his upper-body injury – Darryl Sutter said “Not ready, he’s hurt” of Greene yesterday – expect the Kings to show the four forward groups above, followed by the top three defensive pairings. Obviously, Jonathan Quick is starting.

-There was a heavy media contingent at today’s skate, and one of the topics discussed with the players and with Sutter was the teal-hued return of Martin Jones. Naturally, Jones’ ex-teammates and his former coach spoke highly of the 2014 Stanley Cup champion. “He came from a good program,” Sutter said.

-Here’s a reminder that the Kings advise that you should be in your seats by 7:00 p.m. I’ll have a story up later today of what to expect this season from a game operations standpoint, but there will be plenty of pomp and circumstance surrounding opening night. LAKings.com has the details, which includes a special pre-game Fan Fest at LA LIVE Plaza in which Rogie Vachon, Sean O’Donnell, Nelson Emerson, Jaroslav Modry Daryl Evans, Mike Donnelly, Bob Miller and Nick Nickson will be on hand from 6:00 – 6:30. The entire Fan Fest runs from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.
