September 25 morning skate quotes: Darryl Sutter

On Tanner Pearson’s recovery from a lower leg injury:
He wanted to play last spring. We just didn’t play long enough for him to play. He’s been off for nine months. He trained hard. He was ready last spring, other than being medically cleared. He wanted to play and wasn’t allowed to. [Reporter: From what you normally see, do you see anything that you like from that line?] He’s only played 15 minutes, so we’ll evaluate it in a week.

On the degree to which video has been used to acclimate players in training camp:
Well, we’ve done a lot, because the guys from the NHL are off for five months, and you have to go with the format that you’re basically starting over again, so in terms of systems and what you’d expect out of different aspects of their game – five-on-five, zones, penalty killing, power play, faceoffs, a little bit of new rules – so we’ve used video a lot. But we’ve been very clear with the players that the more of that you do now, the less we have to do later. They’ve been really receptive and really good. [Reporter: Just because there are a couple of guys new to the organization, does that affect how you use that video at this time of the year?] Absolutely, it’s a big adjustment for guys that – just off the top of my head – guys like Looch and with Christian – in terms of where we want ‘em. And even though you think that teams like Boston and Los Angeles are similar in style, there are differences in the game in where you want ‘em, and obviously Christian’s got a big adjustment to make in terms of the way we want our defensemen to play gaps and play on the off-side and where he want his stick in certain situations, things like that.
