Delegations of athletes participating in the Special Olympics World Summer Games began arriving in Los Angeles earlier this week, with various cities and neighborhoods around the area serving as host cities. El Segundo will be home to athletes from Barbados, Macedonia and Uzbekistan during the event, which begins on Saturday and extends through August 2 and will welcome over 7,000 athletes from 177 countries to Los Angeles for the competition. More information on the World Games can be found here.
On Thursday, the Macedonian and Barbadian delegations toured the Kings and Lakers’ facilities at Toyota Sports Center and took part in a meet-and-greet, autograph and photo session with Kings players and staff as well as Bailey and the Ice Crew. Andy Andreoff, who is of Macedonian descent, was not on hand, but Jeff Carter, Alec Martinez and Tyler Toffoli were and treated the athletes to a personal tour of the Kings’ workout room and team areas. Television Color Commentator Jim Fox also served as a guide for the participants and moderated the question and answer session, while Head Athletic Trainer Chris Kingsley gave a tour of the workout room.
