Matt Greene, on the slow start:
Yeah, we got ourselves behind in the game there and we couldn’t come back, couldn’t bury to get back. I thought we had good momentum, but we’ve got to score goals and we’ve got to get points.
Greene, on having dominated stretches of play after falling behind:
No, we’ve got to start on time. That’s on us. You can’t spot a team like that two goals.
Greene, on whether he thought Minnesota would “sag” early on the second night of a back-to-back:
No, they start well in this building every time. They come out and they’re a fast team, and we should’ve been ready for it.
Greene, on Martin Jones’ strong performance:
Yeah, Joner played great when he came in there, and Quickie’s playing well for us, too. I think Darryl just thought we needed a boost, and they both played great for us tonight.
Dwight King, on the slow start:
Yeah, that would pretty much sum up the start for us. That’s exactly what you said. We were slow out of the gates. They were quick, they capitalized on their chances. It took us a while to get going. We kind of found ourselves a little bit, but they beat us in the special teams battle. That’s what it came down to.
King, on breaking his goal drought:
For me, personally? Yeah, it’s something that’s in the back of your mind. Obviously when you get an opportunity to play more minutes and with top guys, you’ve got to find ways to be productive, and like you said it’s been a long time, so it was nice to get that one. [Reporter: Does that weigh on you a little bit? I mean, cause you’re doing other things well.] You try not to think of it. Obviously you’d get old pretty quick if you did that every time you had a little drought. You think of it, but you don’t let it bother you too much.
King, on Martin Jones’ performance:
Yeah, that was solid goaltending. That kind of just goes along with our team, finding ourselves a little bit. But, it was nice to see him come in and be sharp.
King, on whether he thought Minnesota would “sag” early on the second night of a back-to-back:
I mean, they had a two-goal lead. Any team that has a two-goal lead may take a step back like you said. … They did have a couple opportunities, but I think most of our team is [about] getting pucks in, and honestly we were very sloppy in the first, and they’re a good transition team, and that’s how they are so effective. A little combo of both, obviously – one team being good, and one team maybe just being a little tired. [Reporter: That was a heck of a play on Tyler.] Yeah. I didn’t quite see it. Apparently he batted it out of the air. He’s a great player, he makes great plays.
Robyn Regehr, on whether the loss can be attributed to a slow start:
Yeah, it was a very poor start and pretty sloppy game by us. It’s difficult when you put yourself down 2-0, especially against a goaltender that’s playing as well as Dubnyk has been. But we have a lot better game than that and quite disappointing because it was a really big game and they can continue to get bigger as the regular season winds down here.
Regher, on what he liked from the King-Carter-Toffoli line:
I think they were using their speed and creating turnovers and going back on the attack. When you do that, it’s really difficult to defend because people are coming at you with speed and they were going to the net pretty well, too. So for us, we need everyone going. They’re all big games here for us and we all have to pick up our games and find a way to be better and win games and get points, because it’s just really important right now.
Regehr, on how Minnesota’s style of play has evolved:
I don’t think the forwards or defense really play much different than they did last year. But I think they have a little bit more belief in their goaltending and he’s been maybe a stabilizing influence back there because they were using a lot of goalies. I believe it was especially last year they had a lot of goalies through there and now, by getting Dubnyk, he’s played really well for them and given them confidence. It’s fun to play in front of a goaltender that’s like that and that’s probably the biggest difference for their team.
Regehr, on whether the team raised its level of play when Martin Jones entered:
Yeah, I think that was strictly a move to try to shake up the team. I don’t think that was anything at all against Jonathan. It was just trying to get our team going and Martin hasn’t played in a while and get him some time, too. Usually you see a coach trying to make that move to shake up his team a little bit and I believe that’s the cause of that. We came out and we played a little bit better in the second period, but we’ve still got more and we’ve got better than that and we need to find it here in especially the next game against another tough opponent with Chicago.
Regehr, on whether the team doesn’t make thing easy on themselves:
It’s a little early to really think about the season in a reflective way. I think for all of us, we’re just trying to stay in what we need to do right now and then the next game rather than look too far back. I think that’s where everyone is.
