March 5 postgame notes

-With the win, Los Angeles improved to 30-89-20 all-time against Montreal, a record that includes a home mark of 21-40-9. The Kings have won three of the last four games between the teams. Thursday’s game was the first time the two teams had gone to overtime since a 3-3 tie at the Great Western Forum on February 28, 1994.

-Los Angeles improved to 13-12-3 against the Eastern Conference and 9-6-1 against the Atlantic Division.

-The Kings’ power play has killed off 27 of the last 28 shorthanded situations.

-Thursday’s game ended a string of 17 consecutive games that were decided in regulation. Los Angeles improved to 2-7 in the shootout, while Montreal fell to 6-3. Marian Gaborik improved to 2-for-5 in the shootout, Jeff Carter improved to 2-for-8 and Anze Kopitar improved to 1-for-8, while Tyler Toffoli fell to 0-for-4. Gaborik’s shootout goal ended a string of 22 consecutive team attempts without a goal, dating back to his own shootout goal on November 12.

-With the win, Los Angeles has equaled the most points (48) through 34 home games in franchise history (also, 1990-91).

-The Kings played the 3,700th game in team history.

-Los Angeles scored with its goalie pulled for the first time since Jeff Carter’s goal in a 4-2 loss at San Jose on January 21, 2015.

-Justin Williams played the 900th game of his career.

-Jeff Carter played his 700th career game and 200th game as a King. He has 14 points (8-6=14) in his last 12 games.

-By coaching the 1,103rd game of his career, Darryl Sutter moved past Billy Reay for sole possession of 16th place in NHL history in games coached.

– Marian Gaborik (2-0=2) scored two power play goals in a game for the second time this year and leads the team with nine power play goals.

-Anze Kopitar (0-1=1) has four points in his last two games (1-3=4).

-P.K. Subban logged a game-high 31:35, while Drew Doughty led the Kings with 31:13 of ice time.

-Montreal out-hit Los Angeles 40-31. Devante Smith-Pelly led all skaters with eight hits, while Matt Greene and Trevor Lewis led Los Angeles with five hits.

-The Kings attempted 66 shots (29 on goal, 18 blocked, 19 missed). The Canadiens attempted 52 shots (18 on goal, 11 blocked, 13 missed). Jake Muzzin and Marian Gaborik led all skaters with four shots on goal.

-Los Angeles won 30-of-56 faceoffs (54%). Among regular performers, Anze Kopitar won 8-of-16, Trevor Lewis won 0-of-1, Jarret Stoll won 6-of-15, Nick Shore won 5-of-5 and Jeff Carter won 11-of-18.

The Kings have a team photo scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Friday morning but are not expected to practice.
