Forbort could be on his way up (eventually)

A few quick notes before we push back and lose our internet connection for four hours:

-Defenseman Derek Forbort was nearly recalled today but due to the snowstorm in the Northeast was unable to travel to Columbus. It was partly due to Robyn Regehr becoming ill – he believes he may have come down with food poisoning – and partly because the Kings have six healthy defensemen with Alec Martinez experiencing “concussion-like symptoms” following the heavy hit he weathered from Cedric Pauquette on Saturday in Tampa Bay.

-Via hockey ops, it is still possible that Forbort may be recalled this week, as the Kings still have only six healthy bodies on the blue line. As of now, though, nothing is certain, and Forbort is not in the process of traveling west. While Jeff Schultz would have also been an option, he’s dealing with a minor groin issue that is expected to sideline him for roughly a week. But, the team may still have been leaning towards recalling Forbort. Somewhat similar to the recall of Andrew Campbell late last year, the Kings want to reward those who have put in strong efforts to develop their game, and they’re happy with the progress shown by their first round pick from 2010. Forbort is still young; in 46 games with AHL-Manchester this year, the 22-year-old has two goals, 11 points and a plus-15 rating.
