January 28 postgame quotes: Carter, Toffoli

Jeff Carter, on the win:
It’s an intense, exciting game. As a player, if you can’t get up get up to play them, there’s something wrong with you. We enjoy it. It was a big battle for us tonight. Hopefully we can keep building on this and keep it going, because we need to get some points.

Carter, on whether beating the Blackhawks means more than beating other teams:
At the end of the day, no matter who we beat, it’s two points. It’s really what we’re looking for these days. Obviously they’re a top team and they have been for a long time. Hopefully it’s a big confidence boost for us after. After having some ups and downs, hopefully we can build off it and keep it going.

Carter, on recovering from first period penalties:
It was a tough way to start the game, too many penalties. It takes a lot of guys out of the game. I think once we got back to five-on-five we got rolling a little bit more. We started rolling the lines and getting everybody involved. When we’re rolling four lines and six D and playing like that, that’s more effective.

Carter, on whether there is added urgency following the All-Star Break:
Yeah, I think the break probably came at the perfect time for us. Get away for a few days, clear your head, reenergize, all those things. We had two good days of practice, worked on a lot of fundamentals and whatnot. I think it showed tonight. Hopefully we keep it going.

Carter, on how tonight’s win impacts the upcoming road trip:
I guess it’s nice to get a win before we go on the road. It’s no secret we struggled on the road. Like I said, hopefully beating a team like that can get us going in the right direction, get a little confidence in the room, and hopefully we can keep going.

Tyler Toffoli, on picking up an important two points:
It was huge. It was our last game at home for a while, and playing against a really good team like Chicago, I thought we played a really good game today.

Toffoli, on his game-tying goal:
It was a good forecheck. Reg had a good pinch and it went to Carts. Carts made a good play to Kinger, and Kinger passed it back to me.

Toffoli, on his first game back following mononucleosis:
I think I was a little rusty at times, a little tired towards the end of shifts, but I think it was expected. I thought I was going to feel like that, and you know what? I’m glad that we got the win, and it was a huge game for us.

Toffoli, on the resolve showed by coming back from three one-goal deficits:
I mean, we know our group of guys, and we’ve been saying it all year to you guys and to ourselves. Tonight was a night where we wanted to prove to ourselves that we can win big games, and we did it tonight. It was one game at a time, and we’ve got…33 left.
