Martin Jones was scratched from today’s game as the Kings placed Tyler Toffoli on injured reserve and recalled J.F. Berube to back up Jonathan Quick against the Anaheim Ducks.
As noted earlier, Jones wasn’t expected to miss any significant amount of time due to the injury. Shortly after meeting with the media during the first intermission to discuss his jersey retirement, Assistant General Manager Rob Blake confirmed to reporters that Jones has been experiencing back spasms. From my understanding, the back spasms flared up on Jones during Friday’s practice, keeping him off the ice on Saturday and necessitating Berube’s recall.
At this point, it’s still too early to gauge how long Jones will be sidelined for, though the second-year goalie isn’t expected to miss any prolonged period of action.
In 11 games with the Kings, Jones is 4-3-2 with a 2.20 goals-against average, .908 save percentage and three shutouts.
In 27 games with AHL-Manchester, Berube is 19-4-3 with a 2.05 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and two shutouts.
