January 10 postgame quotes: Winnipeg

Adam Lowry, on the win:
I think we finally got off to the start we wanted. We killed that early penalty then and we had some lucky bounces. On the third goal we got a deflection. We took some more penalties again and let them back in the game. I don’t think we necessarily started the third how we wanted to, but we did a great job battling back and finally nice to win one of those in the skills comp.

Lowry, on whether this was an important win for the team:
Yeah, it’s a huge point. I think any time you can get both points in a game, no matter how many you’re giving away, it’s important. We knew how we played in Phoenix wasn’t how we need to play to win. I think we got off to a good start tonight. We spotted them a few goals. I think we still need to work on our discipline, but it’s a big win for us moving forward.

Michael Hutchinson, on what was going through his mind in the shootout:
I actually try to not think about anything. I’m trying to be patient and out-wait the shooter and make them make the first move. They have some good players who have some pretty good moves. So you have to be ready for anything, but you can’t psyche yourself out at all. Like I said, just be patient with them.

Hutchinson, on his performance:
As far as tonight, it was much better than my first appearance here. Like I said, they do a great job of getting bodies to the net and tipping pucks and not making your job easy. So I had to really battle and fight for pucks tonight. They got a couple of first period goals tonight where the puck just ended up on their stick all alone backdoor. The third goal was a bad handoff by me and I should’ve played the puck a little bit better. But then after that, [the puck] just took a couple bounces off skates it landed right on their guy’s stick in the slot. The fourth goal, it’s just one of those things that happened. We scored one like that early in the first period. Overall, I was pretty happy with my game. Once we got into the shootout, I felt pretty confident and knew as soon as we that one goal that I was feeling pretty confident that we were going to get the job done.

Bryan Little, on whether he had a plan heading into his shootout attempt:
A bit. I kind of watched Wheeler, who is a righty, and he kind of came in the same way I like too. I was thinking low glove, but [Quick] kind of went down fast on the other shot and he left some of the upper glove open. So I kind of had that in my head when I was going.

Little, on how the team handled giving up a three-goal lead:
It was pretty positive. I thought we did a good job handling it. It could’ve turned to negative and guys getting mad at each other, but we stick with it. They threw a lot at us in the second period. We stuck with it the whole game. There were definitely parts of the game where they outplayed us and controlled the play. But in the end, getting that fourth goal was huge.

Paul Maurice, on the game:
That’s the game you like to be a part of, especially the first period. I’m not talking about score but the physicality of it, the intensity, lots of big hits going both ways. It was fun.

Maurice, on what the win does for the team:
A little confidence builder for us to come from behind, even though we took the lead into the third but then to give it up, to come back. More our style of play than anything else, we came off our game a little bit. Give LA credit, they’re a good hockey team and they’ll put pressure on you, but [we] found a way to get back out of it. At no point did I think, later, that we were dominating. That’s not what I’m suggesting, but we got back to our game. We got back to the forecheck a little bit and got some pucks to the net which is our game.
