January 3 postgame quotes: Martinez, Brown, King

Alec Martinez, what kind of emotions he felt during the game:
I would say it’s an emotional rollercoaster. The bottom line is you can’t spot a team six goals and expect to win a hockey game.

Martinez, on what the focus is being down three goals late in the game:
You just don’t stop playing. You just keep trying to get pucks to the net as much as you can. Fortunately they went in there, but we obviously didn’t get the job done.

Martinez, on what the team’s focus is on after the game:
We’re half way through the year here. We have to figure it out. We’re not obviously playing to the best of our abilities, nowhere even close. We’ve got to turn things around.

Dustin Brown, on whether he was pleased with his performance:
No. Like I said, seven goals. It doesn’t matter. Our team isn’t about individuals. We need 20 guys to play and if we give up seven, I don’t think anybody can sit in here and say they had a good game.

Brown, on where the team is at the 40-game mark of the season:
Consistency has been a theme all year for us. But like I said earlier, we’ve been saying that for 20 games now. It’s individually, collectively. We’ve got to figure it out. Stop talking about doing things and start doing things.

Brown, on the team’s performance in overtime and shootouts this season:
You can’t win shootouts when you only score, I think we have only four or five shootout goals out of however many shootout attempts. That’s on the shooters. Our goalies have been good in shootouts. You look at Edmonton’s game, Quickie makes it to the fifth round so he makes four saves for us. It’s what you have to get from your goaltender. Our scorers need to score.

Dwight King, on the loss:
Nobody came into prepared to play a good team in our conference. They’re right at the top for a reason. Like I said, it took us a while to get into the game and when you’re doing that against good teams it’s tough to find ways to win.

King, on why it took the team so long to get into the game:
I mean everybody is different. At this stage, you prepare yourself for the game. Obviously, people just weren’t ready for the hard part of the game and the compete. That’s some that their team does really well.

King, on the emotions he felt during the game:
It happened pretty quick. Obviously it’s nice to be able to come back in those last final minutes. But it’s about closing out games and getting the two points. Walking away from this game, we have places we can get better at and I’d say our overtime record is one of them.

King, on how the team felt seeing Jonathan Quick pulled in the first period:
We play hard for any goalie that’s in our net. They’re both great. I’ll say we had a bad start as a team. It wasn’t just Jonathan and we kind of tried to switch things around. It took a little while, but found our legs but it was a little too late.
