December 10 practice notes

Good afternoon from snowy Ottawa, where the team is returning to the downtown hotel after a 12:30 practice at the Canadian Tire Centre. It’s almost bizarre to think that this is December 10, and we’re only enjoying our first full day of the season in Canada.

-There were no changes to the Kings’ lines at practice today. The entire team participated. If you’re looking for the rushes and pairings, they’re available here.

-Kyle Clifford, who is advanced in his recovery from the flu, did not take the first rotation through line rushes, so there might not be any changes to tomorrow’s lineup. I spoke with Clifford after today’s skate, and he told me that his energy and appetite have returned after having dipped considerably over the weekend. Because the team had received shots for the mumps, there was no concern that his illness was related to the league-wide mumps scare. I’ll have a story on this later today.

-I’ll also have a story on Drew Doughty’s return to the Canadian Tire Centre, the site of the 2008 NHL Draft when Doughty put on a Kings jersey for the first time as a member of the organization. Lisa Dillman also spoke to Doughty, so be on the lookout on the LA Times’ Kings page for a story on Doughty’s return to Ontario.

-Darryl Sutter didn’t speak to the media today, but I did catch up with Mike Futa to learn more about several Manchester-based prospects. There’s some really interesting insight from Futa, so be on the lookout for that as well later this afternoon.
