Olli Jokinen, selected third overall by the Kings in 1997, played only 74 games with the club in the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons and totaled 21 points (9-12=21) before he was traded to the New York Islanders on June 20, 1999 as part of the Ziggy Palffy and Bryan Smolinski trade. He’s a familiar and popular presence amongst the Kings traveling media corps, and on Tuesday morning Jokinen, who has amassed 741 points (318-423=741) in 1,189 career games, spoke on behalf of Nashville’s strong five-on-five play and how his time in Los Angeles helped build a base for the consistent success he has found in his career.
