A brief Willie Mitchell update

Willie Mitchell is not with the team in Anaheim. As expected, he won’t play tonight and doesn’t appear ready to step in early in this series.

“Willie’s not with us,” Darryl Sutter said.

“Clearly we’re way better being this close. Just stay back at our facility and treat him.”

This is not a surprise. Sutter said prior to Game 7 against San Jose that “Hopefully there’s a chance that if there’s some sort of miracle that we can win tonight, that we could get him back again this year,” which seemed to imply that the ailment wasn’t of the immediate, short-term variety.

Mitchell suffered the undisclosed injury in the Game 6 win over San Jose.
