Kings sign Mersch, Dowd

The Kings have signed Wisconsin senior Michael Mersch (fourth round, 2011) and St. Cloud State senior Nic Dowd (seventh round, 2009) to entry level contracts. Mersch, 21, signed a three-year ELC, while Dowd, 23, signed a one-year ELC.

I’ll post updates, analysis, and some thoughts from Los Angeles’ hockey operations soon.

Via Bucky’s Fifth Quarter, here’s Mersch scoring a highlight reel goal against Michigan earlier this season:

Mersch’s stats:

I recently chatted with Nelson Emerson, Player Development, about Dowd, a Hobey Baker finalist.

Dowd’s stats:

Via SB Nation College Hockey:

Dowd is underappreciated and overlooked by many, but he’s one of the most complete players in college hockey. He’s playing center at St. Cloud, though likely projects as a wing in the NHL. He mixes a powerful game, grinding along the boards and playing tough defense, with the skill to score goals and effectively set-up teammates.
