March 20 postgame quotes: Jonathan Quick

On getting ready for the playoffs:
It’s not about getting ready for the playoffs today. We’ve got to get ready for Saturday’s game today. So we’ve got Florida coming in. We’ve got to prepare for them and get ready to win that game.

On what he was thinking of before Washington’s overtime power play:
Their options. They’ve got a couple plays they like to run, and you’re constantly looking to see if that’s what they’re doing or if they’re going to do something a little different. They could have set plays that we’ve seen on video, but they’ve got guys that could go off the grid a little bit and do something that you’re not expecting, so you’ve always got to be prepared for that. But we do the homework and we’re prepared. Coaches do a good job preparing us for all situations.

On a perfect penalty killing performance:
When we did well in 2012 in the playoffs, our PK was a huge, huge reason. When we were winning games last year in the playoffs, our PK was a huge reason. When we were losing games last year, our PK was a reason. Weve got the guys here that know how to do it, and that’s something that we need to continue to get better at, and we need that going forward through the back end of the season here, and hopefully through the playoffs.

On the key to stopping Alex Ovechkin in the shootout:
I don’t know if there’s any real key. Just stop the puck. [Reporter: What’d you expect from him on that shot?] He has a couple different moves. He’s trying to go five-hole there. He has a couple good moves. Maybe it hasn’t gone his way here, like you said, but he’s had success in the past. Obviously he’s somebody you’re always preparing for.

On what tying Rogie Vachon’s franchise win mark means:
Obviously it’s special because wins are a team effort. It’s 20 guys each night, and 20 guys contributing towards each individual win. That’s special, and obviously that means a lot. I think the biggest thing is I’ve had the luxury of shootouts, so I think I’d have another season of win totals, and I’d still probably be behind Rogie. He didn’t have the shootout, so he didn’t have that luxury. So I guess I’m fortunate they implemented that a few years back.
