A quick note on Vey and the salary cap

I received a question on Twitter yesterday about whether Linden Vey’s recall to Los Angeles was imminent. CapGeek, which serves as an excellent resource not only for salary-related queries, but for a myriad of CBA and hockey-related topics, lists the Kings’ cap space today at $957,989. Vey’s salary is $790,000.

I rerouted the question to the team’s hockey operations and was told that the Kings do not yet have the needed space to be able to recall Vey.

Keep in mind that when answering reporters’ questions following the trading deadline, General Manager Dean Lombardi cited the cap crunch as the reason behind Vey’s assignment to Manchester.

“That’s just the reality of it now, and as space builds up as time goes on, I’m going to bring him right back,” he said on March 5.

With that in mind, don’t be surprised to hear of Vey’s recall in the near future.
