BULLET POINTS: David Backes provided a goal and an assist as the United States topped the Czech Republic 5-2 Wednesday. James van Reimsdyk, Dustin Brown, Zach Parise and Phil Kessel also found the back of the net for the Americans. Ryan Suter added three assists, while Ryan Kesler posted a pair of assists as well. Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers scored both goals for the Czech Republic. With the win, the United States advances to face Canada on Friday.
QUICK: Jonathan Quick stopped 21-of-23 shots en route to his third win of the tournament. Thus far, Quick has turned aside 72-of-77 shots faced in the Olympics for a goals against average of 1.62.
BROWN: Dustin Brown scored a goal in the first period to break a 1-1 tie. The United States’ alternate captain finished the game with one goal on five shots and a plus-two rating with 14:16 of ice time over 18 shifts. The Kings’ captain now has two goals and one assist with a plus-five rating over the tournament.
