BULLET POINTS: Shea Weber’s third period goal gave Canada a 2-1 win over Latvia on Wednesday. Patrick Sharp scored the other Canadian goal in the first period. Carey Price stopped 15-of-16 shots in net for Canada. Latvian netminder Kristers Gudlevskis turned aside 55-of-57 shots. Latvia’s lone goal came from Lauris Darzins after he jumped onto the ice as part of a trick play off of a faceoff win. With the win, Canada advances to face the United States on Friday.
DOUGHTY: Drew Doughty recorded the primary assist on Weber’s game-winning goal. The defenseman finished the game with three shots on goal with 19:55 of ice time over 27 shifts. Doughty now has four goals, two assists and a plus-three rating over four games in the tournament.
CARTER: Jeff Carter finished the game with a game-high six shots on goal with 17:23 of ice time over 22 shifts. Carter again skated on a line with Patrick Marleau and Jonathan Toews and had many memorable scoring chances that were turned away by Latvian goalie Kristers Gudlevskis.
