In 2012-13 the 6-foot-6, 230-pound Schultz had three assists and logged a minus-6 rating in 26 games for the Washington Capitals, with whom he spent the first six and a half years of his NHL career. He was drafted 27th overall in 2004.
Schultz led the league with a plus-50 in 2009-10, the year he posted a career high 23 points (2-20=23) over 73 games. In 399 career games, the Calgary native has recorded 75 points (11-64=75), 133 penalty minutes and a plus-78 rating.
After requesting a trade from Washington that was reported by the Washington Post in May, earlier this week Schultz was bought out of the final year of the four-year, 11-million dollar contract that he signed in July, 2010.
Analysis that relies heavily upon Schultz’s possession and advanced stats can be found here.
Full analysis of the movement to and from Los Angeles on the first day of free agency will be posted later today.
