May 14 morning quotes: Darryl Sutter

On whether the Kings or Sharks are any different in the playoffs:
“I don’t think teams change systems or style, that’s for sure. Depending on how close games are, how much big guys play – that becomes more important between regular season and playoffs, and with the schedule this series, the way it’s set up, we have two days between Games 3 and 4, so that obviously affects, I think, both coaches, how they use guys, too.”

On whether it helped that Los Angeles faced San Jose late in the regular season:
“I don’t think it makes any difference, quite honest. The regular season has zero impact on anything at the end of the day. I think the only impact that anything prior has on this series would be the amount of time that they had off, and the amount of time we had off. I think that both teams, as much as they liked the time, they probably would have liked a couple more days for injured guys. It has zero, quite honest. It has zero on anything. If you do it all, the regular season has – other than the teams that go away when the season is over – zero impact on the playoffs.”

On the players he speaks to when he is looking for input:
“Well, we have six captains, and then we have three or four older guys that have a really good handle on those guys. So I just kind of go to them, or I can go to them and you guys come and tell me. It’s the best way. Trust them, right? Then they, quite honest, know how to manage themselves better than we do, and when you trust them and know the experience that they’ve been through as a group, you just trust what they tell you.”
