The White House: Matt Greene

How would you describe the experience of being in the same room as the standing President of the United States?
“It’s unbelievable. It’s something you never think you’re actually going to get a chance to do. [He’s] just kind of this guy that makes a lot of decisions for your life, but you never think you’re actually going to get a chance to meet him, and it’s pretty special when you do.”

What is the reaction to being surrounded by portraits of George Washington and other Presidents and being officially honored and recognized by the United States of America?
“It’s unbelievable. It’s pretty special. I think it’s something that’s going to sink in a little bit later. Right now you’re just kind of in awe. You realize the opportunity that you got. It’s pretty special.”

Are the players born outside of the United States comprehending the scope of such an event like this? Is it similar to that of the American-born players?
“I think so. I think even the Canadian guys and Kopi and Slava too, it’s a pretty special building to be in. Guys worked really hard to be honored here. It’s really special, and I think it’s something that people will take with them for a long time.”

We’re taxiing and about to take off. Many more quotes, photos and videos will be posted after the team’s arrival in St. Louis this evening.
