Cory Schneider deservedly earned the game’s first star with a 20-save shutout and denied Trevor Lewis on a shorthanded two-on-one with Mike Richards, but this Jonathan Quick save on Keith Ballard was every bit as good as anything denied on the opposite end of the ice.
Due to injuries up front, Ballard actually skated as a forward in Vancouver’s 2-1 win at Phoenix on Thursday. After five seasons with Phoenix and Florida in which he averaged a shade under 30 points per season, the former Minnesota Golden Gopher has one assist in 2012-13 and hasn’t topped seven points in his two-plus years in Vancouver.
