Getting away from Los Angeles might not be the worst thing for the Kings right now. For the past few days, their post-practice mornings have been filled with TV cameras and accompanying reporters, practically gushing about how great the Kings are and how well they’ve been playing. Of course, in the locker room, that’s met mostly with shrugs and platitudes, because those who have been around for more than a week know that players don’t battle from September to May just to be satisfied with themselves when they win the Clarence Campbell Bowl. There’s more work at hand, and if any overconfidence sneaks into the Kings’ collective psyche, it’s certain that the New Jersey Devils will remove it swiftly. To that end, though, captain Dustin Brown said he’s not concerned that the Kings will develop overconfidence.
BROWN: “With this group, I think we all understand why we’re in the position we are, and it’s because we work, not because we were handed it or we deserved it. It’s because we worked. We have a working mentality from top to bottom. Our skill players are hard workers. Our role players are hard workers. I think that goes a long way, in having some confidence but not arrogance.’’
