Penner postgame quotes (April 11)

Dustin Penner’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
PENNER: “We came out strong. We knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew they were going to come out hitting, and we were pretty well prepared. We did a lot of video and we’re a pretty focused group right now.’’

(on the game…)
PENNER: “It was one of those games where their goaltender kept them in it, and the could easily have stolen it from us. We had a lot of power-play opportunities, and when you get a lot of power plays like that and you don’t capitalize as much as you should, it’s one of those games that can get away.’’

(on his happiness at scoring such a big goal…)
PENNER: “Yeah, it was. Just any goal, actually.’’

(on the game…)
PENNER: “We earned this one. We can’t rest on our laurels now. There’s a lot more hockey to be played, and we know they’re going to come out even better in the next game.’’

(on whether he was surprised the puck came to him on the winning goal…)
PENNER: “I was more surprised it went in the net.’’

(on re-setting after the end of the regular season…)
PENNER: “The coaching staff, they’ve been on us for the last two months, and rightfully so. They’ve been mad at us, because there’s a lot of potential in this group. We’re not surprised that we came out and got this one, but we also expect them to play a great Game 2 and we have to be prepared for that. Luongo played great for them.’’
