A certain unease seemed to linger inside Staples Center during the second intermission. Through two periods, the Kings had clearly outplayed the Edmonton Oilers, but there was no reward in terms of goals. It was easy to imagine how the Kings would be able to break through in the third period, but it was equally easy to imagine how goalie Devan Dubnyk would continue to stone the Kings and that the Oilers would make one big play and steal the game. The Kings finally got their breakthrough goal in the first minute of the third period, then had to sweat through a four-minute penalty kill.
After that kill, the Oilers looked as though they had given the game their best shot, and the Kings were able to put it away with a nice 2-on-1 play from Dwight King and Mike Richards. With two games remaining, the Kings hold their own destiny. Win one, and they clinch a playoff spot. Win both in regulation, and they will have a division title. Other scenarios can come into play, but those are the simplest. What was the key aspect of the Kings’ 2-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers? I present three options at the link below, and you can vote for your choice…
