The Manchester Monarchs, in a tight playoff race of their own, potentially got some help today when forward prospects Andy Andreoff and Jordan Weal to the AHL roster. Both players recently completed their junior careers.
Weal, 19, a third-round pick of the Kings in 2010, had 41 goals and 75 assists for the Regina Pats this season. He tied for fourth in the Western Hockey League in scoring. Andreoff, 20, a third-round pick of the Kings in 2011, had 22 goals and 36 assists for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League. With five games remaining in their regular season, the Monarchs are holding down the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, with a three-point lead over ninth-place Portland.
As for another Kings prospect, Tyler Toffoli and the Ottawa 67s won a first-round OHL playoff series last night. Toffoli had two goals in a 2-1 victory over Belleville to wrap up the series. Ottawa faces Barrie in a second-round series that starts Friday in Ottawa.
