As part of the earlier discussion about hybrid icing and the red line, Darryl Sutter talked about adjustments that coaches make to the latest rules. Sutter stopped himself and chuckled, and he compared his need to adjust to Southern California’s freeway system. Apparently, the concept of a carpool lane has not reached Sutter’s town of Viking, Alberta, with its 1,000 residents.
SUTTER: “I just thought, `Hey, that’s a fast lane.’ I’m used to not crossing the solid line but, hey, if no one sees you cross the solid line… [laughs]’’
And how many face-to-face meetings has Sutter had with the California Highway Patrol?
SUTTER: “None. I figured it out. [laughs] I thought it was a truck lane or something.’’
