This is the third of four meetings this season between the Kings and the Detroit Red Wings. It follows the Red Wings’ 4-1 victory on Nov. 19 in Los Angeles and the Red Wings’ 8-2 victory on Dec. 17 in Detroit. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick played the entire first game and eight-plus minutes of the second game, so he has allowed seven goals in 3 1/2 periods against Detroit this season. The Kings will need to improve on special teams against the Red Wings in order to have a chance tonight. In the two previous meetings, the Kings went a combined 0-for-9 on the power play, while the Red Wings went a combined 3-for-8. As noted earlier, the Red Wings are without injured players Jimmy Howard, Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, Todd Bertuzzi, Jonathan Ericsson and Jakub Kindl. Justin Abdelkader had flu symptoms this morning but is expected to play. If he can’t, he will be replaced by call-up Joakim Andersson. For the latest on the Red Wings, check out the coverage from the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News, followed by the possible lineups for the Kings and the Red Wings…
