In the 2005 entry draft, the Kings selected Jonathan Quick in the third round and forward T.J. Fast in the sixth round. We never really got a chance to see if Fast was quick — he was traded to St. Louis in 2008 — but we will get a chance to see if Quick is fast. Quick will participate in today’s All-Star skills competition in Ottawa, and he has been selected to participate in the “fastest skater” competition. Each team nominated one of its three goalies to participate, and Quick will go head-to-head against Detroit’s Jimmy Howard. And yes, unless they’ve changed the format from last year, the goalies will be wearing full gear. Quick will also participate, with all the other goalies, in the breakaway “elimination shootout.” For the full rundown of the skills competition, click here. The event starts at 4 p.m. Pacific time and will be televised on the NBC Sports Network (formerly known as Versus).
How is Quick faring in Ottawa? KingsVision was there to catch some of the extensive media session yesterday…
Finally, KingsVision will be doing a live broadcast from Ottawa, sometime around 2:15 p.m. Pacific time, to show some of the skills-competition festivities. Click here to check it out.
