For the first time in 15-plus years, it’s the Kings in Winnipeg, taking on the (new) Jets. All the action is on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, with all the game updates here as well…
OVERTIME
In goal: It’s still Bernier vs. Mason.
Jets 1, Kings 0: The Jets won the game into overtime. After a scramble in front of Bernier, Evander Kane won the loose puck and flipped a shot into the net. Ron Hainsey and Blake Wheeler got assists 1:09 into overtime.
THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Bernier vs. Mason.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Jets 31-25 in regulation and played their first 0-0 regulation game of the season.
SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Bernier vs. Mason.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Jets 12-8 in the period but missed a golden opportunity when they had a 5-on-3 advantage for 1:53 and didn’t score (they had four shots on goal). Then, Dustin Penner hit the post with 2:30 remaining. Winnipeg nearly scored in the final minute, but Kyle Wellwood shot high from the slot.
FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Bernier against the Jets’ Chris Mason.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Jets 13-9 but generated only a couple threatening scoring chances and, at times, had trouble with the Jets’ aggressive forecheck and quickness. The Kings went 0-for-1 on the power play and did not face a penalty kill.
