Sutter postgame quotes (Dec. 26)

Darryl Sutter’s postgame thoughts…

(on seeing more than two goals on the scoreboard…)
SUTTER: “It’s nice to see a `W’ up there. That’s more important. You don’t want to overemphasize the importance of having to produce more offense to win hockey games.’’

(on his raspy voice…)
SUTTER: “Sorry, I’ve got a sore throat. Cheerleading.’’

(on the scoring from defensemen…)
SUTTER: “Well, point shots. Holding their line, patience at the blue line, instead of being overaggressive and forcing offense. A good play down low. I thought, in the first period, we did a really good job of that down low, and going low to high.’’

(on the importance of jumping on Phoenix early…)
SUTTER: “The first minute is the most important one in every hour. We had a good first period. We’ve been trying to talk about that, good first periods, and I think (the Coyotes) made the push in the second and we didn’t match it. Then we got it back in the third again.’’

(on Kopitar’s game…)
SUTTER: “I thought our centermen, we wanted them to control the middle of the ice and be good down low. I didn’t think it was about individuals tonight.’’

(on his message in the second intermission…)
SUTTER: “Well, we weren’t that strong in the second. We just wanted to have a better third, as a group. It really didn’t matter what the score was.’’

(on Gagne’s status…)
SUTTER: “He got banged up in the first. We’ll see him in the morning, before we leave.’’
