Game 27: Ducks 3, Kings 2 (FINAL)

After tonight, the Kings will essentially have played one-third of their season. Where does the time go? All of tonight’s action will be on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, with all the game updates here as well…

THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick against Hiller.
Kings 2, Ducks 2: The Kings tied the game 8:50 into the third period. Justin Williams kept the puck in the Ducks’ zone, after a clearing-attempt bounce off the boards, then got rewarded. Williams passed to Jarret Stoll, who then made a perfect backhand, cross-ice pass to Williams, who crashed the net and knocked the puck past Hiller from close range.
Ducks 3, Kings 2: The Ducks scored with 48.8 seconds remaining. Teemu Selanne won a faceoff in the Kings’ zone, and Bobby Ryan battled with Rob Scuderi. Ryan whacked at the puck and it popped in the air, over the shoulder of Quick and over the goal line for the game-winner.

SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick against Hiller.
Ducks 2, Kings 1: The Kings reduced their deficit to one goal with 16 seconds remaining in the second period on a goal by Slava Voynov. Anze Kopitar made a nice move to the net and Hiller made the save, but in the ensuing scramble, Dustin Penner picked up the puck and Voynov pinched down. Voynov took a cross-ice pass and shot and scored before Hiller could move across for the save.
End of period: Shots were 12-8 in favor of the Ducks in the second period. Until Voynov’s goal, the Kings’ only memorable scoring chance came early, when Andrei Loktionov was stopped by Hiller, point blank, after an odd bounce off the boards.

FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Ducks’ Jonas Hiller.
Ducks 1, Kings 0: The Ducks took advantage of Quick misplaying the puck to take a 1-0 lead 7:59 into the game. Quick played a dump-in behind his net and attempted to push the puck into the corner, but put it on the stick of the Ducks’ Teemu Selanne. Selanne centered the puck to Bobby Ryan, who shot it into an empty net before Quick could get back in position.
Ducks 2, Kings 0: Corey Perry gave the Ducks a two-goal lead with 2:33 remaining in the period. Ryan Getzlaf held the puck near the left boards then sent a sharp centering pass to the front of the net. Perry beat two Kings defenders there, then tapped the puck past Quick. Matt Beleskey also got an assist.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Ducks 8-7 in the penalty-free period but their best scoring chance, arguably, was a deflected puck that nearly cruised into the Ducks’ net.
