The Kings and Anaheim Ducks are back at it tonight, with all the action on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, and with all the game updates here as well…
THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Ellis.
Game delayed: The start of the third period was delayed because of a lightning malfunction at Honda Center. The period started after a 17-minute delay.
Kings 3, Ducks 1: The Kings took a two-goal lead with a power-play goal 2:45 into the third period. Slava Voynov pinched down to the left side of the net and Simon Gagne fed a pass through traffic. Voynov whacked at the puck from close range and scored to give the Kings a 3-1 lead. Dustin Brown also got an assist.
Kings 3, Ducks 2: Corey Perry’s power-play goal pulled the Ducks within 3-2 at the 8:24 mark. Ryan Getzlaf took a shot and Perry was allowed to park to the right of the net. The puck deflected off Perry’s body, directly in front of Quick, and trickled across the line.
Kings 3, Ducks 3: The Ducks kept the pressure on, and tied the game with 6:25 remaining in the third, on Cogliano’s second goal of the game. Luca Sbisa shot through heavy traffic, and Cogliano deflected the puck past Quick to make it a 3-3 game. Teemu Selanne also got an assist.
Kings 4, Ducks 3: The Kings got the lead back with 3:01 remaining in regulation. Kopitar took the puck to the net and Ellis made a save, but Kopitar picked up his own rebound and scored on a wraparound to give the Kings a 4-3 lead. Justin Williams and Rob Scuderi got assists.
Kings 5, Ducks 3: On the power play, trailing by a goal, the Ducks pulled Ellis with 1:50 remaining. Shortly thereafter, Mike Richards controlled the puck and fired a shot into an empty Anaheim net from approximately 140 feet away to give the Kings a 5-3 lead.
SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Ellis.
Kings 1, Ducks 0: Mike Richards broke the scoreless tie 1:54 into the second period. Richards took a short pass from Andrei Loktionov and found some space in the middle of the ice. Richards went to the net with Anaheim defensman Kurtis Foster, then whipped a backhand shot past Ellis from the right circle to give the Kings a 1-0 lead. Slava Voynov also got an assist.
Kings 1, Ducks 1: The Kings’ lead lasted just more than two minutes, as the Ducks tied the game 1-1 at the 3:19 mark. Teemu Selanne attempted a wraparound shot, which got deflected by Saku Koivu in front of the net, right onto the stick of Andrew Cogliano to the right of the net. Cogliano, unmarked, shot the puck into an open net before Quick could slide across.
Kings 2, Ducks 1: Simon Gagne’s shorthanded goal gave the Kings the lead back at the 7:28 mark. Gagne picked up the puck in the neutral zone and went in alone against Ellis. Gagne started wide right, then cut to the front of the net and tucked the puck around Ellis to give the Kings a 2-1 lead with his unassisted goal. It was the Kings’ first shorthanded goal of the season.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Ducks 13-11 in the second period. The Kings went 0-for-1 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill and scored a shorthanded goal.
FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Ducks’ Dan Ellis.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Ducks 14-13 in the first period, but neither team controlled play for long stretches. Jonathan Quick made a handful of great saves, including point-blank saves on Bobby Ryan (eight minutes in) and Andrew Cogliano (in the final minute). The Kings went 1-for-1 on the penalty kill and did not have a power play.
