Some notes from last night’s game…
— The Kings won their Staples Center opener with a 5-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.
— The Kings had been 0-6-1 against the Blues in their previous seven meetings and hadn’t defeated the Blues at Staples Center since Dec. 11, 2008.
— The Kings improved to 3-1-1 in what was, technically, their third home game following two “home” games in Europe.
— The Blues outshot the Kings 27-24.
— The Kings went 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
— Jonathan Quick improved to 3-0-1 and made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season and his 15th career shutout. Quick is now one shutout away from tying Jamie Storr for second place all-time among Kings goalies. The win was the 99th of Quick’s career, and he has an 18-4-3 career record in October.
— Simon Gagne had two goals and one assist and has three goals and four assists in his last four games.
— Anze Kopitar had one goal and one assist, and has four goals and five assists in five games this season. Kopitar has at least one point in all five games this season and has four multi-point games.
— Justin Williams has two assists and has recorded at least one point in every game (two goals, five assists).
— Gagne, Kopitar and Williams have combined to score nine of the Kings’ 14 goals this season.
— Dustin Brown had one goal — on a 5-on-3 power play — and one assist. Brown recorded his first goal of the season and his first multi-point game of the season.
— Jarret Stoll had one goal and one assist. Stoll had not recorded a point in his first four games.
— Slava Voynov made his NHL debut, played 19 minutes, 48 seconds, and had a plus-2 rating. Voyonov recorded three hits and one blocked shot.
— Nine players recorded at least one point for the Kings.
— Jack Johnson had one assist, on Brown’s power-play goal. Johnson has two goals and two assists this season, all of which have come on the power play.
— Mike Richards had one assist, on Brown’s power-play goal. Richards has three assists this season, all on the power play.
— Dustin Penner had one assist, for his first point of the season.
— Willie Mitchell had one assist, for his second assist of the season. Mitchell had five assists in 57 games last season.
— Simon Gagne had a team-high five shots on goal. Dustin Brown and Kyle Clifford each were credited with a team-high four hits and Matt Greene and Willie Mitchell each were credited with a team-high three blocked shots.
— Willie Mitchell led the Kings in ice time, at 23:40, followed by Jack Johnson at 21:48. Jarret Stoll led all Kings forwards in ice time, at 19:29, followed by Mike Richards at 18:25.
— The Kings won 31 of 57 faceoffs (54 percent). Anze Kopitar won 11 of 17 draws (65 percent) while Jarret Stoll won 6 of 15 draws (40 percent) and Mike Richards won 7 of 12 draws (58 percent).
