Avalanche 4, Kings 1: The Kings got on the scoreboard with a power-play goal 54 seconds into the third period, as Simon Gagne crashed the left side of the net, took a pass from Anze Kopitar and beat Varlamov.
End of game: Shots were 30-14 in favor of the Avalanche.
SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Varlamov.
Goal disallowed: Officials waved off a Kings goal 6:58 into the second period, as they ruled that Willie Mitchell’s shot from the left point was deflected into the net by a high stick.
Avalanche 3, Kings 0: Colorado took a three-goal lead with a 5-on-3 goal with 8:13 remaining in the second period. Quick made the stop on a close-range shot by Hejduk, but Stastny, unmarked to the right of the net, knocked in the rebound.
Avalanche 4, Kings 0: The Avalanche made it 4-0 lead with a power-play goal just 29 seconds after their third goal. David Jones scored, with the assist to Kyle Quincey with 7:44 remaining in the period.
End of period: The Avalanche outshot the Kings 19-6 in the second period, and Colorado has a 27-8 edge in shots overall. The Kings did not have a power play in the period and went 0-for-2 on the penalty kill. The Kings will have a power play to start the third period.
FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Avalanche’s Semyon Varlamov.
Avalanche 1, Kings 0: After the Kings failed to score on a power play, the Avalanche got on the board with an even-strength goal less than 30 seconds later. Milan Hejduk passed left to Matt Duchene, who beat Quick with a sharp wrist shot from the left circle with 7:31 remaining in the first period.
Avalanche 2, Kings 0: Just 54 seconds after they took the lead, the Avalanche scored again, with Paul Stastny getting credit for the unassisted goal with 6:37 remaining in the period, off an apparent deflection from Kings defenseman Alec Martinez.
End of first: The Avalanche outshot the Kings 8-2 in the period. Officially, the Kings trailed 2-0 before they recorded their first shot on goal. The Kings went 0-for-2 on the power play — without a shot on goal — and the Avalanche will be on the power play for the first 1:41 of the second period.
