Willie Mitchell’s postgame thoughts…
(on his goal…)
MITCHELL: “It’s preseason. A guy who only scores five (goals) a year, you don’t want to use them up in the preseason. We were talking about that after. It’s like, `Hey, you only get five a year, you’re a defensive defenseman, you want to kind of save them for the season.’ But of course it feels nice to score a goal. Who’s kidding? When Kopi is on the ice, you’ve just got to be patient and find a hole, and he gets you the puck and he did. I was at the far side and just tried to put it up on that side. I got lucky and it went in. It was good. It was a so-so game for us. We’ve got better than that, but as good teams do, they find ways to win games. I know it’s only exhibition, it’s early, but you still find ways to get it done. So we’ll continue improving and get her going again tomorrow.”
(on the play of Bernier…)
MITCHELL: “Both of them have been great. Obviously we’re in a pretty special situation, to have two quality people, I think is the first thing that comes to mind for me. You guys see what they do on the ice, but they’re both just tremendous people. I think they both have a really, really healthy respect for each other’s game. It’s only human nature in this game, that you want to play more and more, and they both do, but I think they both have a healthy respect for each other’s capabilities, and that’s what makes it work so well. It’s nice. It’s nice to have that option, nice to have Quickie as our guy and Bernie right there behind him. So, like I said, it’s a great situation for us, and they obviously handle it tremendously.”
