Kings’ arbitration dates set

The NHL Players’ Association has announced the dates for this summer’s arbitration hearings in Toronto — get your tickets now! — including those involving the Kings’ Alec Martinez and Brad Richardson. Richardson’s hearing will be July 21 while Martinez’s hearing will be July 27. As noted earlier, both players can continue to negotiate contracts, and if they sign, the hearings will be canceled. If it goes to a hearing, both sides will submit a proposed salary, and the arbitrator can choose one of the salaries or pick a salary somewhere in the middle. The team then has 48 hours to either accept the salary or make the player a free agent. Richardson made $900,000 and Martinez made $875,000 last season.
