Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
GREENE: “It’s just getting everything handed to you by them. That was it. They came ready to play. Obviously we didn’t. That was right off the drop of the puck. I don’t think that we were playing well in the first period. Again, we were giving them chances to score, and that’s what good teams do. We knew, going in, that they play a really good game every night, and they’re going to get their offense off whatever you give them. I think, every one of their goals, we gave it right to them. They took advantage of every opportunity they got, and filled the net on us. It’s a good lesson, late in the year, that you’re never really as good as you think you are. Especially if you’re going to give a good team the opportunity to beat you, like we did tonight.”
(on the disparity between shots and scoring chances…)
GREENE: “It was one of those games where you felt you had two or three good shifts in a row, and got some pressure going, and then you give up two grade-A chances in a span of 30 seconds from each other. It’s frustrating. You think you can build some momentum and it doesn’t happen that way, and it’s all on us. It’s completely on us. … Tonight, I just think they played a good game and we weren’t up to par, or anywhere close to where we need to be to get into the postseson.”
(on giving up the third goal after making it 2-1…)
GREENE: “It’s been happening all season. If we knew how to fix it, we would probably do it before game 79. It’s a play where we have to bear down there. The onus is on us. We’ve got to be better on those shifts after a goal, for or against. You’ve got to keep that momentum or you’ve got to break theirs. They broke ours tonight with that goal, and it put us back on our heels, and then they just kept coming.”
