Jonathan Bernier gets the call in goal tonight, three days after he replaced Jonathan Quick in the third period of the loss to Detroit. It’s been something of an up-and-down season for Bernier — his first full season in the NHL — but Bernier’s numbers have been stronger of late. Bernier has allowed two or fewer goals in five of his last six starts, and is 3-1-2 in that span. Today, Terry Murray talked about Bernier’s recent progress…
MURRAY: “We’re seeing a player who, now, is adjusting to the NHL game, the shooters, the aggressiveness that is needed in your play. It’s just the speed of the game and, emotionally, you have to catch up to the speed of the game. Overall, it’s much better. He had some big games on that long road trip. He faced Washington, as an example, a premier team, and did a very good job. As you say, in the last five or six games, his performance has been very good, so there’s no hesitation. That’s what it’s all about, when you have two goaltenders. When it looks like there’s a goalie that’s off his game, then you can confidently put another player in and let him play.”
