The Kings tied the game with 8:47 remaining in the first period. After Edmonton’s Dustin Penner fanned on a shot attempt, the Kings started a 4-on-2 break. Wayne Simmonds’ pass deflected off the stick of Drew Doughty and went across to Marco Sturm. Sturm took a sharp-angle, off-balance shot and beat Dubnyk to the top corner to make it a 1-1 game.
