COACH DAVE TIPPETT
(On the change in offense from the previous game…) “As little that had gone in the net the last four or five games, to see seven goals scored in the first period, I’ve got to say it probably wasn’t what I was expecting. But it’s good to see some chances go in. I thought when we got the lead, even though we gave up a couple, I thought the first couple goals were a little soft. But our guys hung in there and they kept going. The guys in between the first and second period said, `We’ve got to keep pushing,’ and I thought we came out in the second period and did that.”

(On Brett MacLean’s first NHL game…) “You’re looking for some things to maybe grab some energy or grab a little magic and he said let’s put the kids together. That line played together well together last year in San Antonio, and I thought they came out and played very well. They had a couple great shifts and obviously MacLean and (Kyle) Turris both got a goal. They gave us some sparkle when we needed it tonight.”

SHANE DOAN
(On bouncing back after the previous night’s performance…) “I don’t think that we have scored six goals in the last three weeks. It’s nice to get some goals, especially against L.A., when they kept coming back and we had to respond.”

(On MacLean playing in his first NHL game and scoring a goal…) “We were teasing him before the game that some guys do it (score) in their first game. He’s a natural goal scorer and he has done it everywhere he’s been. For him to come in and do that obviously is huge.”

(On cashing in on scoring chances…) “It’s huge. Confidence is a fickle thing and when you get it, it makes all the difference in the world. We’ve got to find some ways to generate some more offense. When those ones go in early, it makes the game that much easier.”

BRETT MACLEAN
(On scoring his first NHL goal on his first shot…) “It was kind of a broken play. We usually have a set breakout and it didn’t really work out. I was just kind of going wide and I just tried to drive to the net … I just had my stick on the ice and he [Scottie Upshall] made a perfect pass.”

(On how it feels to score his first NHL goal…) “It’s a great feeling to get that off your back early.”

(On if it was frustrating being down in San Antonio in training camp…) “Yeah definitely. Obviously everybody’s dream is to play in the NHL, and the longer you wait you get a little more frustrated. But I think my main goal is to try and get better every day and eventually prove that I belong up here and at least deserve a shot. Now that I got it, it’s a great feeling.’
