Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
MURRAY: “It was intense. I thought the second and third period got revved up pretty good. For the early part of the year, as it is, the intensity was high, the compete was high. Of course, you’ve got two division teams and that always adds a little bit to it.”
(on whether Doughty and Stoll are OK, after big hits…)
MURRAY: “I think so. Everybody finished off the game. I think they’re OK.”
(on the scary aspect of Doughty’s hit…)
MURRAY: “When you’re going to compete, you’re going to battle, you’re going to take hits. You’re going to get hit and I thought we played pretty hard. We had our share of physical play. They’re a team that’s not going to go away, and that stuff is going to happen.”
(on whether teams might be targeting the first-place Kings with physical play…)
MURRAY: “I haven’t looked at the standings for a while, so I don’t know where we are, to be quite honest. Teams are going to play hard. I thought we got through last year and we had a pretty good year. We made the playoffs and we learned how to really compete and do the things the right way in the second half of that year. I think we found out a lot about ourselves in the playoffs, and you bring it to the table now. The league is set up to be a very competitive league. There are going to be some teams out (of the playoffs) at the end of the year that are some good hockey clubs, not making the playoffs. Everybody knows the value of what’s here right now, and you’re going to battle hard for it. I don’t think anybody is necessarily taking a look at us and saying, `OK, we’ve got to go after them and try to intimidate them,’ and we’re not going to be intimidated. We were not last year, and we’re not going to be this year.”
(on the Kings’ disallowed goal…)
MURRAY: “It’s a pretty consistent call. That happened to Ryan Smyth last year, I remember, in a game against Nashville. It was the same kind of look, where he went for the net. I have no problem with it. The goal was disallowed. You’ve just got to regroup and go out and play.”
(on the response, with strong play…)
MURRAY: “You have to have a good response. We’ve talked forever about the importance of the shift after a goal, whether you’ve scored or you’ve given one up, how important that is. And I think we kind of approached it the same way.”
