Wearing the `A,’ eh?

When it was determined that alternate captain Matt Greene would miss approximately the first month of the season, it seemed natural that the Kings might temporarily assign an “A” to a second player (along with Anze Kopitar). During training camp, though, Terry Murray said he would stay with only one alternate. Imagine my surprise, then, when Michal Handzus came out for Saturday’s season opener wearing an “A.” Today, I asked Murray about his change of heart…

MURRAY: “I’m not big on that. I just kept getting asked, `Who’s the A? Who’s the A?’ I finally gave in. I surrendered. I said, `OK, we’ll put it on Zeus.’ But I’m not big on that. I think whenever your assistants, your captains, are out of the lineup, you can get through it for a short time. If your captain, in particular, is out of the lineup for an extended time, then I feel there needs to be a captain in the locker room and I would make a change on that, for that injury time.”
