As noted a couple days ago, the Kings start the season with the youngest average age in the NHL, at 25.4. Terry Murray said this morning that he wasn’t aware that the Kings were atop the “youth” leaderboard, but immediately joked that “Sean O’Donnell drove the age right up.” Murray’s lineup includes two teenagers, in 19-year-olds Kyle Clifford and Brayden Schenn, but Murray said he feels comfortable with the relative youth of the team.
MURRAY: “We’ve added some younger players, as we know, coming out of the training camp. You’ve got Schenn, you’ve got Clifford, you’ve got Loktionov. There’s quite a bit of youth there, and it just speaks volumes about the job the organization has done to do things the right way, by showing a lot of patience. The ownership gets a lot of credit for that, Mr. Anschutz, to say, `Yeah, this is the way to go,’ and letting these young guys play in the minors for a couple years. They’re ready to step up and show what they can do in the National Hockey League.”
