Bernier, on winning the job

Here’s what Jonathan Bernier said today about winning the job as the Kings’ backup goalie…

Question: Terry has said that you’re the backup goalie, and that had to be the goal coming in. How did it feel to hear that?

BERNIER: “It feels great. I’ve been waiting three years for that moment, and it’s great that I can be part of this team.”

Question: There will be a transition for you, being a backup goalie. Is there anything, in terms of mindset, that you can prepare yourself for?

BERNIER: ``I think it's going to be an adjustment for me, that's for sure. I think when you play a lot, it's the mental part that's hard, but physically my body kind of got used to that. I think this year is going to be about working hard in practice, to keep my game sharp, and every time I get a chance to play, I just have to play the same way, play confident and just give my team the best chance to win every night.''

Question: How did you approach this camp? A lot of people treated it as though it was your job to lose. Did that put any pressure on you, or did you think about that at all?

BERNIER: ``No, I didn't really. Coming into this camp, I think i was pretty confident after my three games last year and the season I had overall. For me, it was just about focusing on myself and not really focusing on what people had to say. I knew it I was able to play the game I was supposed to play, I would have a pretty fair chance to make the team.''
